Implant supported bridges in Cork

If you have multiple missing teeth or teeth that can’t be saved, dental implants can be placed either side of a gap and a bridge fitted to fill the space. A full arch bridge can also be secured to implants to replace a full arch of top and/or bottom teeth.

What is the process for implant supported bridges?

The number of implants you will need to secure a bridge in place will be outlined in your treatment plan and dependent on your dental needs. Dental implants are made of titanium; and once inserted, they replace your missing tooth root: a straightforward process which can be completed under local anaesthetic. The implant will need three to six months to heal and integrate with your jawbone to provide a solid support for your replacement teeth.

Once your jaw has healed, a small connecting component called an abutment will be fixed to the implant to hold your replacement teeth (bridge) in place. Abutments are produced in titanium, gold or porcelain, and can come as a standard fit or crafted specifically for your smile. These options offer a range of aesthetics results, depending on your requirements.

A final dental bridge is then fitted on top, to replace your missing teeth. Your dentist will carefully match the colour of your crown to your natural teeth.

Are dental implants right for me?

If you're healthy, regularly brush your teeth and visit the dentist, you will most likely be suitable for dental implants. Dental implants can be a great solution for people of any age. However, they might not be suitable for everyone.

You might not be suitable for dental implants if:

            • You smoke heavily – smoking can slow down and hinder the healing process

            • You drink alcohol excessively – this can disrupt the healing of your gums

            • You have weak bones – as the implant will need to integrate with the bone in the jawbone

            • You have severe gum disease or tooth decay – these will need to be treated before proceeding with treatment

            • You have a compromised immune system – as it can be more difficult for the body to heal after surgery

            • You suffer from teeth grinding (bruxism) - as this can put excessive pressure on implants, potentially affecting their stability and longevity

            • You have a medical condition – this can prevent us from providing you with this treatment

            What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are usually made of titanium; and once inserted, they replace your missing tooth root. The implant integrates with the bone providing a strong foundation and replicating the function of the natural root. This provides a secure point onto which a crown can be placed, replacing the missing tooth.
